July 2010 LEGOLAND

Where is the happiest place on earth? Disneyland!!! Where is the happiest place on earth if you have a family with 4 sons?! Lego Land!!! ;p
This summer we took the fam to Lego Land. We also brought along my 14 yr old niece to help out. It's an 11 hour drive to Carlsbad, CA from Utah so we made a stop in Las Vegas on the way. For those of you thinking of taking kids to Las Vegas- don't. Unless you are there only to spend the night and spend an hour in the M&M store. That was reason enough for us!

We stayed the night in the Space Needle. The kids all thought that was cool to see (while at LegoLand we found a miniature Space Needle & mini Las Vegas sign!)

When we arrived in Carlsbad, CA it was nearing dusk but we just HAD to jump in the ocean! In the end, we weren't sure if the boys loved the ocean or Legoland best...!!
FYI- if you want to camp on the beach in Carlsbad, you have to reserve your spot 6 months in advance! It's a hot spot and gorgeous!

Our first day in Legoland was *magical*! We were pulled every which way not sure what to look at (everything is made of Legos), not sure what to ride first, plenty of things to build!! ;p
Even while you're waiting in line you can build with Legos! Genius! Karina was SO much fun and so loving to all the kids and us. (Doesn't she look like a supermodel holding Genevieve?!)
We especially liked the Lego Mini world- it's amazing what you can do with Legos!!
Aaron wanted to spend his own money to try the "fair" game where you climb up the ladder to ring the bell at the top hoping you don't flip over...we were all skeptical about a 7 yr old being able to do it but with a very welcoming "game operator" Aaron actually made it to the TOP!! He won this HUGE blue bear we call... (drum roll please)... Lego! We were all SO proud of him! That win encouraged the rest of the fam to try the games there and to our delight- everyone won at every game! Go super family!!

Next day at Legoland I found my look alike, we discovered the Bionicle portion of Legoland, Eric and I took a ride on the Log River Ride (that used to be our favorite ride at Opryland- we'd go on it over and over in High School together! *sigh* memories...), and got completely addicted to the orchestra water pad (where you could play a tuba with your feet and water squirted everywhere). I have to say we looked pretty snappy in our SuperFamily shirts & the boys were pretty proud.
Later that night, Karina watched the boys while Eric and I (& genevieve) went to a beautiful outdoor patio Mexican restaurant with fire pits and delicious food. It was bliss to get to spend time with my handsome, hardworking, WONdERFUL husband. Everyone couldn't quit commenting on Genevieve's cuteness!
Our last day we spent at the Legoland Water Park. BRAND NEWLY opened! There were intertubes you could build together like legos, huge slides, water areas for all ages...

Every day after Legoland we would visit the ocean to play in the waves & watch the sunset together as a family. A couple of times we ducked into the local ice cream shop. yummy...
Eric was the KING of sand art. He made Michael and Asher into Mer-men, Ammon into a Strong Man, and designed a few other pieces of art in the sand.
Genevieve didn't like her first foot dip into the ocean. She was so nice and toasty on the sand and that first water dip was COLD!
The last couple of days in California we played at the beach. Eric and Karina had always wanted to learn how to surf so we rented some surfboards for us and boogie boards for the boys and rode some waves!! Eric got up a few times and rode the surfboard!! Unheard of! So athletic!

We had the time of our lives and can't wait to go back for another adventure.

NBC Channel 4 News

http://www.abc4.com/content/news/top_stories/story/Fathers-could-get-more-power-in-Utah-child/1i3CECBOqEGoFz-IEkK2bg.cspx

At 6a I was on NBC Channel 4 news for a Zumba class I was in.

At 10p (and quite by accident) the news men from NBC singled out Eric to do a story on him & racing them to our house from the State Capitol, we answered their questions & provided them with what they wanted (even home made European style Hot Chocolate). (link above)

This is an issue that is important to us- we have been fighting for our boys and hoping that this Task Force will help a bill to pass in UT that will require courts to look at both parents individually and not just put a blanket decision over every case that the kids live with the mom. We are hoping decisions will be made that will be in the best interest of children--- and especially ours. :)

We love you boys so much and want the very best for you. We will never stop fighting for your best interest & best future! <3

July Karina's 14th Bday

I had so much fun helping Karina celebrate her 14th bday in a new neighborhood with new friends. That can always be a little scary but Karina pulled it off beautifully! We had a Cake Decorating party (one of Karina's fave past times). In addition to the Lemonade stand, colorful lantens, Kick Boxing the Pinata, and Relays (including hill rolling") we had all sorts of cakes there for each table to decorate.
The winning cake though was this Octopus one the gals decorated! It was so beautiful we couldn't eat it and decided to give it to the coolest guy they knew at the time in the ward, Eddie. Eddie loves playing the saxophone, so the Octopus got his very own Saxophone. The whole party climbed into the back of Eric's truck and HID while we drove to Eddie's house and I (a stranger to the fellow) delivered the beautiful cake to his doorstep! It was hilarious and the gals couldn't quit laughing crouched down low hiding in the back of the truck. The cake receiver totally knew there was a truckload of gals giggling while their sweet deliverer handed over the cake.
Aesha made this incredible tiered cake as a surprise for Karina. It was FANTASTIC. Everyone had fun with the frosting and candies afterwards...

What a treat! Happy Birthday Karina!
