Jordan River Temple

My brother Russ lives next to the Jordan River Temple (across the street actually). One night, while Eric was working late, I dropped off the kids to Russ's home while I planned on spending some time at the Temple. It was one of those days where the world just felt like it was on my shoulders. I had so many things bearing on my mind and I needed the relief & peace the Temple gives me. The renewed hope. The sense of direction in this time of personal craziness.
I got to the Temple and it was blizzarding outside. The Temple had closed due to inclement weather. My heart sank. I really needed to go in. I really needed to be spiritually fed.

I sat in my car and just looked at the blizzard circling around this spiritual and physical fortress. I sat and watched how the winds blew and the snow & ice beat on the walls of the Temple and how it remained bright: a beacon of strength and light to me.

I decided I wanted to be like that. I wanted to be a source of strength and light even if just to myself. I want to be steadfast and unwavering in times of trial. The Temple taught me that night that no matter what is going on around me, what trials may try to blow me down, circle around me or weather me, I can be a pillar of strength while shedding light and goodness in my own life, on my husband and children, and on others around me. I needed to remain grateful & hopeful.

Charlotte Jessop once gave me a psalm that she refered to in times of trial:
"Faith is a bird that feels dawn breaking but sings when it is still dark."

I will remain faithful even with all the blustery events that surround my life right now. I will remain hopeful and grateful for a brighter day. I will be that unwavering pillar no matter what.

Christmas '10

Merry Christmas to all and a very Merry Christmas to baby Genevieve who experiences her First Christmas this year! Daddy (and Auntie Jennifer!) spoiled this baby girl just like she should be!

Even Madee had a turn with the spoiling and showering of gifts on the baby! Daddy bought her all sorts of BabyLegs and this really sweet wooden rattle that is made from one piece of wood! We have no idea how they do it. SO cool.

We had a blast at Madee and Papa Durtschi's home with all the cousins and aunts and uncles & siblings. We were SUPER lucky that Harvey came out from D.C. to spend Christmas with us! It was a total surprise to me! Eric & Harvey kept it a secret until a few days before Christmas, Eric came in the house and said, "whoa! there is a huge package Harvey delivered for you! Come outside and see it! I raced outside not knowing what to expect... and who pops out from around the corner?! Harvey!! I was SOOOOO surprised and ECSTATIC to see him!!! We missed Mom & Dad and were grateful to have all the Droke siblings together with all the Durtschi siblings. Thank you Harvey for spending Christmas with us. It meant the world to me!

Madee decorates several trees in her home different themes for each one. The kids LOVE discovering all the stories each ornament has to tell. Madee also has 50+ Nativity sets in her home. Those are my favorite part!
Along with all the festiveness, food, & family, we have LOADS of fun playing games from Werewolves to Guitar Hero, Scattergories to the Candy Game.
Every night is a late night! Love y'all!

The boys make-up all sorts of adventures outdoors and in the basement; there is NO shortage of things to do and discover at Madee & Papa's home but Lego building is on the list of top 3 things to do with this group of 10 boy cousins! When we were back at our home we built this magical snowman and really hoped he would dance around after we put the hat on his head ;p and put together our annual puzzle (age appropriate this year).
Merry Christmas everyone! We hope your days are filled with family, festiveness, and fun. We miss you and hope to see y'all soon!

Yule Shoot Ur Eye Out! Dec '10

The Dearths have an annual Christmas party.
This year was the hilarious and familiar world of the Christmas Story!
Of course, costuming was amazing by everyone (Except for us! We, once again, were just lucky to be there. I've never been THIS busy before - yay for Crio though!).

Kelly did an AWESOME job on the menu (CHINESE) and creative & delish cupcakes!

We had a White Elephant Gift Exchange (seriously had to be the funniest one I've ever been a part of!). I won Poop Spray (you spray it in the toilet after... you know... to make it smell like you've never been!) and Eric won a thong. We gave the shake weight- tons of giggles!

Santa & his Elf shoving people down stairs on a sled, hilarious dart game, mashed potato eating, and props from the movie made the night challenging (we got our GAME faces on!!) and side- splittingly funny! Libby (the Elf) was my absolute favorite costume! But Kelli's leg lamp costume was seriously impressive!

Thanksgiving '10 Break

Out and about on Thanksgiving Break.
Dinosaur Museum, Christmas Shopping, spending time with friends and family, visiting the Reindeer & Ice Sculptures at Thanksgiving Point, and driving through spectacular Christmas lights while sipping Eric's homemade European Drinking Chocolate!

KSL Radio Nov 2010

Here is Eric in the KSL Studio doing his first LIVE Radio Interview for our company Crio Bru!
He did a smashing job! He is so calm, straightforward, and can ease a group like you've never heard. He's a natural!

Genevieve Nov 2010

This picture reminds me of that part in the Christmas Story movie when Ralph's little brother Randy gets all decked out in his snowsuit and then falls over and can't move! Little Genevieve was so snug in her winter wear but we HAVE to dress like this in the freezing Utah Winter!!

How cute is she? She was dancing a little jig squirming there on the floor.

"D is for Dinosaur" Nov 2010

and Donuts and Digging...
I took Michael's Playgroup to the Dinosaur Museum since our letter was "D". Teague, Roman, & Michael had a blast! These boys are Dinosaur crazy!
On our 5 minute drive back they sang the Alphabet song 50 times (ok- it was more like 5 times but it SEEMED like 50! lol!) and played with Dinosaurs and WERE Dinosaurs the whole playgroup time! SO CUTE!

Harry Paw-tuh Nov 2010

It was my uh-mazing friend, Bethany's, birthday and she wanted to celebrate it Harry Potter style by going to opening night of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and having a fabulous dinner in the a recreated white tent beforehand. She and Libby did pretty much all of the work and had all the brilliance! I was out of this one except for a few minor touches here and there (because of how excitingly FAST Crio Bru is expanding Eric and I are working our bones off!).

Start it all with mysterious Marauder Maps invitations...

Imagine how breathtakingly mysterious and cozy this fabulous dinner inside the white tent was to walk into! The smells, sight, even sounds transported us into the world of Harry Potter. Bethany's attention to detail is extraordinary!

I LOVE how creative everyone always gets with costuming. We love to play together!
Narcissa Malfoy, Ron and Hermione (don't laugh at our make-shift costuming! we were just lucky to be there with our schedules!!), Hedwig (Genevieve made the perfect lil' owl!)

Bellatrix Lestrange, Professor Moody, Moaning Myrtle, Mrs. Figg, Tonks, and the ever mystical Professor Trelawney to name a few...

I made this 4 tiered Coconut Cake with Meringue Mushrooms (complete with chocolate underside!) and Bethany's chocolate "Hapee Birthdae" cake from Hagrid. Yummy!
We had Butterbeer, Gillyweed salad, magical swirl cookies, dried fruit... the deliciousness goes on and on but I can't remember the detail because it was a true feast for every sense!

We ended with a FABulous movie goodie bag and the movie! Going to a movie with a gang that takes the cake in costuming is really fun! Everyone wants to take pictures with you! We went back to the land of magic afterwards for delicious cake & games.
One of the best parties we've ever been to! Happy Birthday Bellatrix! I mean Beathany!
