Dressing in costume is something normal in our home but in October the costume box is out and readily available for all to use!
Our family had a hard time deciding what we would all be for Halloween! Final answer: Super Mario Super Family! It was all going to be perfect except that when I went to dye my Princess Peach costume (an old cinderella costume) from blue to peach... it came out a splotchy purply mess! So my costume was a bust and Eric's costume went down with mine (I was SO sad my costume didn't work out!!). But the boys and Genevieve all looked great!
Ammon: Mario (of course!)
Aaron: Luigi
Asher: Yoshi
Michael: Toad
Genevieve: a flower
Eric: Guppa (was gonna be anyway)
Cassandra: Princess Peach (boo hoo!)
We trick-or-treated with Natalie's family on Soda row Halloween afternoon. The shops did a great job and the gymnastics place had an entire "haunted" gymnastics course! It was awesome!
Here are Best Friend Brothers: Asher & Michael... I mean Buzz & Woody!
Later that evening, we hosted a kids Halloween party complete with games, trick-or-treating, and a movie! We had a spider "cave" set up in our living room. There were tons of kids from the neighborhood in and out all night! It was so much fun!
Sunday was actually Halloween. I love that in UT trick-or treating happens the day before Halloween if Halloween is on a Sunday!! So Sunday brought on an extended family gathering. We tried to keep it reverent but all the cousins were waiting for one of my "spectacular" parties (which I wasn't prepared for but gave in to the begging and pulled some games out anyway). We had fun playing games, eating festive food (Eric and I made Bread pudding in a pumpkin...SOOOOOO delicious!), and we trick or treated in the house.
For the in home trick-or-treating, we broke into groups. Led by lantern light, the kids rotated through rooms which the adults had decorated in anticipation of the "trick-or-treaters". When the kids came a knockin', they were greeted with a cozy tale of what Halloween was like when grandparents was a kid, or a "ghost story", had a trick played on 'em, or got a funny Halloween joke! The kids absolutely loved it! They said it was better than trick-or treating because they got candy and a story/surprise from family.
We ended by walking by candlelight to Papa in the living room who then told one of his famous cowboy stories- this one with a hilarious twist at the end! No one wanted the night to end!
