I finally decided to just move Michael's birthday celebration day to
September instead of his actual birthday, January 3.
So many adults who have late Dec/early Jan birthdays have told me they had a grandparent "give" them their birthday date or some wished they had a reason for a change because they get overlooked during the holidays.
We never want Michael to feel overlooked!!
SOooooo, I changed the day we celebrate HIM to September 27.
Why September 27?
In Catholicism they have a day they celebrate each Saint.
Saint Michael is celebrated on Sept 27: Michaelmas!
So here we are, in September celebrating Michael and all that is HIM at age four:
PIRATE STYLE!!
Eric's sister Sarah, and one of the first family members Michael warmed up to (she is very special to him! love you sweet Auntie!), made an incredible Pirate costume and was the main event at Michael's party!
She had the kids, Walk the Plank, Dig for Buried Treasure, and gave prizes for Bravery!
All in her BEST scurvy Pirate voice of course!
Always fun: Freeze dance to Pirate songs (including Backyardigans "I Wanna Be a Pirate" and "Sponge Bob's Theme Song" sung by Patchy the Pirate)
The Food: don't forget the Gumball EYEballs!
The FUN: Digging for Buried treasure using their own maps! & Pin the eyepatch on the Skull & Crossbones
The Decoration:
WALK THE PLANK!
Michael's Private Pirate Hideout
ENTER IF YOU DARE!
A Piratey Cake!
Our favorite part was when after everyone finished the Happy Birthday song with "AARRrrrrr!!", Michael broke Pirate character and literally squealed with excitement and shouted "It's my BIRTHDAY!!!!"
Happy Birthday to our sweet boy Michael!!!!
You are SO MUCH FUN with all your costuming, imagination, creativity, hilarious phrase choices, and LOVE of life!
You make our family laugh and stretch our imaginations to the limits!
